Research project “From Virgin Forests to Ploughlands: History of Anthropisation of Forests in Slavonia from the Middle Ages to the Beginning oft he 20th Century“ (IP 2014-09-6719) is part of scientific research conducted at the Department for the History of Slavonia, Syrmia and Baranya of the Croatian Institute for History. The Project is financed by the Croatian Science Foundation in duration of four years (June 1st 2015 – June 1st 2019). Project team consists of seven scientists – five historians and two forestry experts. The objective oft his project are to determine the extent of human influence on the Slavonian forests from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century, and to determine the importance and essentiality oft his process for the modernisation of Slavonian region, especially during the period of increasing industrialisation and urbanisation int he 19th century.
